Medical Students

Medical Student Rotation

Welcome to Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery service at the George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences

We encourage your active participation during this clerkship. The faculty and residents are available to you at all times for assistance and questions.

Our basic objectives are:

  • To allow students to explore Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery as a possible career choice.
  • To provide broad exposure to both the clinical and surgical aspects of the field of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery through work with specialists in Rhinology, Facial Plastic/Reconstructive Surgery, Otology/Skull Base, Laryngology, Head and Neck, Otolaryngic Allergy, and General Otolaryngology.
  • To teach you how to evaluate and manage common otolaryngology problems through gaining experience in performing ear, nose and throat examinations, obtaining focused histories and formulating differential diagnosis and treatment plans.

Students will assist in the operating room and work with faculty and residents in clinic. Students take part in inpatient rounds and share in the responsibility for caring for hospitalized patients.

Fourth year medical students, in addition to the above mentioned responsibilities, are asked to actively participate in weekly didactics and at the end of the rotation, are asked to give an in-depth presentation on a topic in the field of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
